De hashtag die het meeviert is #SMDay. Ooit in 1997 tikte wij met\u00a0SixDegrees.com het eerste &#8216;echte&#8217; social media netwerk af. Dit Wikipediaatje vertelt:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><b>SixDegrees.com<\/b> was a <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"Social network service\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Social_network_service\">social network service<\/a> website that lasted from 1997<sup id=\"cite_ref-2\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/SixDegrees.com#cite_note-2\">[2]<\/a><\/sup> to 2001 and was based on the <i><a class=\"new\" title=\"Web of Contacts (page does not exist)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Web_of_Contacts&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\">Web of Contacts<\/a><\/i>model of social networking. Users could send messages and post bulletin board items to people in their first, second, and third degrees, and see their connection to any other user on the site. It was one of the first manifestations of social networking websites in the format now seen today. Six Degrees was followed by more successful social networking sites based on the &#8220;<a class=\"new\" title=\"Social-circles (page does not exist)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/w\/index.php?title=Social-circles&amp;action=edit&amp;redlink=1\">social-circles<\/a> network model&#8221; such as <a title=\"Friendster\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Friendster\">Friendster<\/a>, <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"MySpace\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/MySpace\">MySpace<\/a>, <a title=\"LinkedIn\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/LinkedIn\">LinkedIn<\/a>, <a title=\"XING\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/XING\">XING<\/a>, and\u00a0<a title=\"Facebook\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Facebook\">Facebook<\/a>.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Friendster, MySpace en onze Nederlandse Hyves volgde na SixDegrees.
