Vandaag 30 juni 2016 vieren wij alweer Social Media Dag. De hashtag die het meeviert is #SMDay. Ooit in 1997 tikte wij met SixDegrees.com het eerste ‘echte’ social media netwerk af. Dit Wikipediaatje vertelt:

SixDegrees.com was a social network service website that lasted from 1997^[2] to 2001 and was based on the Web of Contactsmodel of social networking. It was named after the six degrees of separation concept and allowed users to list friends, family members and acquaintances both on the site and externally; external contacts were invited to join the site. Users could send messages and post bulletin board items to people in their first, second, and third degrees, and see their connection to any other user on the site. It was one of the first manifestations of social networking websites in the format now seen today. Six Degrees was followed by more successful social networking sites based on the “social-circles network model” such as Friendster, MySpace, LinkedIn, XING, and Facebook.

Friendster, MySpace en onze Nederlandse Hyves volgde na SixDegrees. Anno 2016 zorgt de social media voor een deel van onze lifestyle. Wij hebben een echte en zekers ook een sociale media ‘ ik’.

In 2010 lanceerde Mashable…

De Social Media Day is in 2010 gelanceerd door marketing en social blog Mashable. De Why draait vooral om de erkenning en het vieren van  de impact die de sociale media heeft op de hedendaagse communicatie. En vieren doen ze irl op bijvoorbeeld dit #SMDay feest in Florida.

While every day is essentially Social Media Day, June 30th, 2016 marks the seventh-annual official global celebration.
